Naira Marley Soapy Dance

Naira Marley & the Soapy Dance saga (Inside Life)

The Marlians movement originator – Naira Marley, releases a brand new sizzling hot single titled “Soapy (Inside Life)“. This came weeks after releasing ‘Opotoyi (Marlians)‘, Naira Marley enters unstoppable mode as he comes through with yet another banger. He’s definitely one of the hottest artistes in Nigeria this year. Thus far, he’s worthy to be included in the discussion.

This new output serves as his sixth single for the year, following Opotoyi (Marlians), Why, Am I A Yahoo Boy (feat. Zlatan), Illuminati (feat. Zlatan) and Royal Rumble (feat. Lil Kesh). The song was produced by highly talented record producer, Rexxie. Just like ‘Zanku‘ by Zlatan, ‘Soapy‘ comes with a new dance called 'soapy dance'. Soapy song has been reviewed to be a song about masturbation judging by the dance step. Its supposedly a man communicating with the opposite sex and asking for satisfaction because he is Soapy.

Morally, and individually, Soapy has been criticized and welcomed by viewers and listeners of the song. The dance step most especially which connects the listener to the song especially if he or she is not of a Yoruba descent is the main talk of the media for a while now since it's release. Many listeners and followers of music have termed the dance a ridiculously abominable one as it absolutely tries to find some sort of appeal for masturbation while others have accepted that it is just an ordinary dance which is not channeled towards negativity but just to help widen the music trade and influence of the singer.

In my view personally, Soapy has an intention be it good or bad which Naira Marley did not cleverly spell out. He introduced a dance step which most people capitalized on and judged down the song as wayward. Naira Marley is trying to stay relevant still in the entertainment industry where stiff competition exist and where other male singers pose as kings of the street. The person or people that need to be sensitized about the Soapy dance step more, is the listeners. First of all, one can choose to score any music he or she likes so if I am listening and moving my body for example to Soapy, it is because I like it.

The onus is now on me to relate with the song or not. Another thing there, is to apply the moderation principle which states that nothing should be done in excess or limited, just equally or moderately. If a person listens to Soapy and relates with it, giving it it's own meaning personally, that person should be decent enough to dance to the tune moderately and in a modest way so that he or she will not damp the image of the song or it's singer or damp his or her own image personally.

Meanwhile many critics have risen against the dance steps, critics coming from Kaffi (the famous Nigerian dancer and dance instructor), Donflexx and two Nigerian men have expressed their disgust with regards to the message and content of the song. Given the many romantically-related metaphors present in its lyrics, these guys find the pop track inappropriate. Even more, these Nigerians do not like that Naira Marley promote such social vices like cyber crime. According to them, they would have liked it better if the singer was kept in jail for a longer period of time. (hmm not good).

Finally, Nigerians especially youths should take it easy with this Soapy dance video. We are youths and are supposed to be pillars of our families and our Nation so, let us not make rubbish of this song or it's dance video. Mind where you dance Soapy and mind whom you dance Soapy with if you must dance Soapy
