My Lover - Not3s Featuring Mabel

Mabel Alabama Pearl McVey (born 20 February 1996) is an English singer and songwriter. In 2017, she achieved mainstream success with "Finders Keepers" peaking at number eight on the UK Singles Chart. Her debut studio album, High Expectations, was released on 2 August 2019. She does R&B, POP and afroswing genres of music and Vocal is her major instrument.

Mabel is the daughter of Swedish singer Neneh Cherry (A good familial background for success) and Massive Attack record background for success producer Cameron McVey, and granddaughter of jazz legend Don Cherry.

Her half-brother is the former Mattafix singer Marlon Roudette. She is a multiple award winner. MABEL MCVEY, is a multicultural artist who succeeds brilliantly in the UK. She is currently doing extremely well in the UK and starts to be known on the global musical stage.  We can say that music runs in Mabel’s veins, as she truly belongs to a musical dynasty. Indeed, her dad, Cameron McVey, is the producer of the famous British group Massive Attack, in addition to being a singer and songwriter.

He also worked with Neneh Cherry, his wife since 1990 and Mabel’s mother. Neneh Cherry is a Swedish rapper and singer from Sierra Leone who became known worldwide. Thanks to her single “Buffalo Stance”, released in 1988. In France, she is mainly known for her collaboration with the Senegalese legend Youssou N’Dour in 1994, with the hit “7 seconds”. It is hard to be more multicultural than Mabel. Born in Malaga, Spain, she grew up in Stockholm, Sweden, and she is currently living in London.

And we should not forget her Sierra Leonean origins from her mother. This is a strength that makes it very difficult to label her in a single musical category, no matter the song, starting with her first great commercial success “Finders Keepers” featuring Kojo Funds, released in 2017. The hit, which is an excerpt from both her first mixtape Ivy to Roses and EP Bedroom, has more than 30 million views on YouTube. Mabel's successful play with Afro, R’n’B and Pop is particularly shown through her two collaborations with Not3s, another musician nominated in our rankings about young Hip-Hop African-British artists.  He first contacted her for a remix of his song « My Lover ». Not3s then contacted her more recently for the song « Fine Line », whose music video was shot in Johannesburg, South Africa. A complete hit which was played throughout  2018, and it  was main song of her first album.

The lyrics

[Not3s]
Girl you're the baddest,
no need to practice
'Cause you're so different,
you always winning,
no girl can match this
They can never match you, 'cause
you fire like matchsticks
Keep up your image, angel to
sinners, but you the baddesta
I can never be a fool to
you, my lover, my lover
Never be a fool to you,
my lover, oh, my lover
Everything I do for
you, my lover, my lover
Never be a fool to you, my
lover, oh, my lover, yeah
My lover, my lover, my lover (oh)
My lover, my lover, my
lover (oh, my lover).

Mabel]
Jasmine eyes and, i'm your size and
I'll decide when we take things further
I'll keep you close, i'm no beginner
I can do both angel and sinner
You chose the hard way,
you picked a winner
Bring the tequila, you know i'm a killer
Your a boss, no nicey
Your Jordans and your chain so icy
You wanna wife me, making
promises for life b
You know what i'm asking,
there's no double dancing
No second chances, no more
So I can never be a fool
to you, my lover, my lover
Never be a fool to you,
my lover, oh, my lover
Everything I do for
you, my lover, my lover
Never be a fool to you, my
lover, oh, my lover, yeah
My lover, my lover, my lover (oh)
My lover, my lover, my
lover (oh, my lover)
Not3s]
You a queen in the streets, so
no one else can be above ya
When you be all alone, at
least you know I got ya
Baby girl I can't lie, you got my
heart locked up in your locker
And she ain't ever been
about, that's why I love her

I can never be a fool to
you, my lover, my lover
Never be a fool to you,
my lover, oh, my lover
Everything I do for
you, my lover, my lover
Never be a fool to you, my
lover, oh, my lover, yeah
My lover, my lover, my lover (oh)
My lover, my lover, my
lover (oh, my lover).

The song, My Lover is a wow tune and has gotten impressive reactions from listeners. It is  a love song actually in a  unique style and at the end it still points out the reality that even in love 'I can never be a fool to you my lover' (both saying). Some news in the air has it that Not3s is in love with Mabel on the norm and In reality wants a date with her so who knows this could be a tune to achieve this if it's not already existing.

The music video is also breathtaking, it is very colorful with the beautiful Mabel diva, flaunting her beauty and Vocal eloquence. We could hear her subtle voice and light striking pitches. The scenes are actually cohorent and makes the chemistry between the singers obvious. What a melodious collaboration and an awesome presentation!
