President Buhari Picking His Tooth

I Never Thought Buhari's Toothpicking Photo Will warrant Wailers — Buhari's Aide

Bashir Ahmad, President Muhammadu Buhari’s aide took a picture of the president picking his teeth and posted it online. He says when he took the ‘innocent’ photo, which has easily become how critics describe Buhari’s government, and posted it to Snapchat around February 2019, he never envisaged how much it would hit ‘wailers’ and tongue wanglers.

Ever since the photo landed on social media, Nigerians have used it for several reasons, mostly to taunt the president and his government. This was a perfect avenue for Nigerians to legally and freely express their worries about the Buhari administration with some funny tags like "tooth picking administration. To drive home his surprise again, while speaking via Twitter on Monday, the presidential aide wrote:

"It’s hard to understand why some people are genuinely angry because of this innocent pic. When I innocently snapped it on Feb 27 and posted on my Snapchat, it didn’t occur to me that it’s going to give wailers that strong hit. And @BulamaCartoons made an amazing cartoon out of it". The picture showed Buhari relaxing as he picked what could be remnants of food he had probably just eaten. A reflection on a glass window in the room showed the president watching himself on the television.

Some comments claimed that the president’s relaxed mood is a reflection of his: “I don’t care” attitude to the challenges plaguing the country” Although there are still people who saw something natural about the pic. Such people argued that the president was simply being human. While some simply made jokes out of the picture.

Moreso, a former presidential candidate and former minister of education, Oby Ezekwesili has reacted to the viral photo of president Muhammadu Buhari looking all relaxed and picking his teeth, she really took it personal. In her view, the former education minister described the photo as unflattering and wondered why the presidency and its allies found it ‘worthy of public view.’

She tweeted thus:

"That a Presidency @AsoRock and their allies found this unflattering “Fiddling-Nero-type-picture” of the @NGRPresident worthy of public view really does take their celebration of deadly Incompetence to a stratospheric realm". But then Nigeria shall survive this state of incompetent and or competent Buhari led administration.
